There were many critics of Free Schools when they were introduced by the Academies Act 2010.
Sadly it appears that many of the fears raised have become reality with the news that a local Free School in Durham that opened as recently as September 2013 is to close following a damning Ofsted Report.
This will be the third Free School to close since their introduction leaving the pupils and their parents searching for school places and Shadow Education Secretary Tristram Hunt calling for the free school programme to be ended altogether.
Whilst the Governors at the Durham Free School are reported to be taking advice on avenues of appeal – where does it leave the students?
