Lack of Information Makes Benefit Withdrawal Unfair

Published 06 September 2012, 09:52

JpA jobseeker who was stripped of his benefits when he refused to take part in a ‘back to work’ scheme has been awarded compensation by the court.

The man had refused accept a job offered to him which would have involved cleaning furniture for 30 hours a week for six months with no pay.

It was not explained to him that the effect of his refusal would be that his benefit would be stopped.

The court ruled that the failure properly to inform him made the withdrawal of his benefits unjustified.
